Home to the world famous AFC Ajax, the Amsterdam ArenA opened its doors in 1995 as the first retractable roof stadium in Europe.  It is also unique in that the pitch is raised more than 12 meters above street level to allow for local roads to remain intact, as well as provide easy parking access on the lower two levels.
